Just not all on one day.
You may remember that I rashly said that I would do three structured runs each week as part of my training for Bupa London 10k which is coming up far, far too soon.
The trouble is, I made that rash promise last weekend…and then on Monday my week started badly and got worse. Nothing serious or terminal, just busy and unpleasant and high stress.
So my week’s activity has been a little light.
Monday – nothing
Tuesday – nothing
Wednesday – two short runs (damn the bus and my lack of will power)
Thursday – nothing
Friday – cycled to work and back
Saturday – parkrun (of course) and swimming lesson.
The parkrun was Hampstead Heath. You didn’t know there was a parkrun on the heath? Well there wasn’t. But there is now. It’s a complicated (but well signed and marshalled) double lollipop with hills that go on for ever. At one point, I was beginning to think I was running round one of Escher’s never-ending staircases, but just as I began to lose hope, the downhill section arrived. Will I do it again? Probably not, since the journey’s vile. Would I do it if I lived nearby? Definitely.
The swimming lesson was great. A private lesson in an endless pool. I’ve got to get me one of those! When I win the lottery, it’s going top on my list. And if any of you have one that you’d let me try out, please, please let me know.
Hope you enjoyed the park run and swimming lesson. Your 10k prep sounds like Its going as well as mine!
Very impressive Saturday! But how can you practise turns in an endless pool?
Does a cross channel swimmer need to practice turns? … You are planning to swim the channel, right Slothy? (I hope you forgive the overfamiliarity)
Of course. Isn’t everyone?
Don’t worry about a light week. My week was even lighter! Damn weddings and going out and food and alcohol…
I might give Hampstead Heath a miss then! I dislike hills.
Scrapped Hampstead Heath off my list of Park runs to do in light of the hills! Lets hope Bupa 10 is flat
your training going pretty much the same as mine 😦
Oh dear. I seem to have put you all off HH parkrun. Bear in mind that it’s beautiful and that my idea of a hill may be your idea of a slight rise.
Can totally empathise with the training… hope you have managed to get back on track. I’ve just got back from a monster gym session that has my endorphins buzzing again which is helpful. Probably won’t get my butt out of bed tomorrow though!
Where did you have your swimming lesson? I’m doing a tri and some open water swims this summer and have realised that whilst I can swim, and keep going, I’m really slow! It’s quite frustrating. Would love some coaching.
