Yesterday, I became the proud owner of a pair of vivobarefoot shoes.
Today, I ran in them for the first time. Playing it safe, I ran a slow nearly-mile to gauge whether this was a ridiculous impulse-buy or the beginning of a lifelong friendship.
From a comfort point of view, I’m sold. Lightweight, cool and no hint of rubbing. From a running point of view, the jury’s still out. The heel is noticeably lower than my trainers and I could feel the stretch at the back of my calf.
So I will be taking advantage of my shorter Juneathon runs to experiment, bit I won’t be throwing away my trainers just yet.
PS Excuse the typos but our broadband is down and I’m blogging from my phone.
Ooh exciting. I love noooo shooos! Interesting. I like minimalist but havent fancied going further. Let us know how they go on.
Oh how exciting!! Very interested to see what you think…….
Same here, really looking forward to seeing how you get on. I blogged about barefoot running the other day and mentioned sore calves after my attempt, so completely understand where you’re coming from. Take it easy! 🙂
Ooh can we see a pic?
must be a weird sensation, but I am keen to try them too! 🙂
Would love to try them but not sure enough support for us over pronators. Good luck
Oooh, this is exciting! Keep us posted on how they go.
1 hour of barefoot running , 18 months ago, destroyed my calf muscles so badly that I couldnt run again for 6 months! Probably my weird legs though!
Look forward to hearing how you get on with them, make sure you listen to your calf muscles though 🙂
I love running barefoot. I eased my way into it though to let my feet get used to the new demands on the muscles.
Chris
I have constant trouble with my calf muscles because I run on my forefoot… I daren’t try it barefoot style as well I think the pain on the physio table would be too much!! Saying that, it hurts more to run striking my heel in other places so I think every style / mode of running has its downsides… I’ll be interested to hear how you get on… if you like it, will you be ditching the trainers altogether?!
Ohh that sounds exciting, am keen to see how that will go!
