On Sunday, while Shazruns and Marathon Mercer were braving the weather in Milton Keynes, I stood* on a street corner in Wimbledon marshalling the inaugural Womble Triathlon.
Watching the 75 novice triathletes brave the mud and puddles reminded me that I’d started my original walk to run programme in the hope that I could learn to like running enough to try another triathlon.
So when I got an email from the Windmilers saying that the first summer cycling session was today, I thought I’d give it a whirl. I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, there were scary fast people there on rather lovely looking road bikes with tyres so thin it’s a miracle they don’t carve their way into the tarmac. But there were also plenty of ordinary bods on ordinary bikes and even a couple of marshals I’d met on Sunday.
My Brompton and I will definitely be going back for another session.
*Jogged on the spot, did star jumps and generally made a laughing stock of myself in a vain attempt to keep warm.
A triathlon soon then!
Ps:- On behalf of all competitors on Sunday a huge thanks to yourself and all marshalls for a fantastic job in horrendous conditions.
A triathlon, and an ultra…why not go the whole hog and do an ironman? Hehe!
I bet you think you’re funny 😉
well done! agree with Carla, what is a little swim, cycle and marathon after all LOL
