Northampton parkrun

Yesterday, courtesy of a bed at Fortnight Flo‘s, I was able to run the first Northampton parkrun.  As Northampton is within easy cycling distance of London*, I was expecting to see a number of familiar faces, and wasn’t disappointed.  But it was also great to see so many parkrun first timers.  Of the 120 people who turned out, over half had never run a parkrun before, which bodes well for the future.

The course is flat(ish) and almost completely on tarmac paths, so it will be a good all-weather venue.  It has two laps, the second slightly shorter than the first, and clear views across the park which allow you to see turning points well in advance.  Marshals were plentiful and encouraging and lined the finish to welcome runners home.  It’s small touches like that which will make this parkrun, along with so many others, such a great place to be.

*At least it is if your name is @n0rm and you’re an ironman-in-training.
