I had a fabulous run on Wimbledon Common this morning, courtesy of the Wimbledon Windmilers.
The Jim Braben Memorial Open 10k is a two lap course which is mostly trail and essentially flat. Given that the common is at the top of an evil hill, I’m always slightly surprised that it’s possible to find flat routes around it. Surprised and grateful, given the exertions of the last few weeks.
The race itself is a low tech affair with not a timing chip in sight. It’s large enough to offer competition and company, but small enough to be sociable, and within minutes of arriving, I’d bumped into a friend of Fairweather Runner’s who I’d met at the BUPA London 10k.
The weather was kind, the marshals were encouraging, the setting was scenic, and my splits were even. Could I have run faster? Probably. But with Thunder Run a mere four weeks away, comfortable was very much the order of the day.
Well done. I thought about you all running 10Ks this morning while I ate a cooked breakfast!
A cooked breakfast while other people exercise. Do Sunday mornings get any better?
Oooo I fancy a 10k right now…
Sorry… I got that confused with a kit-kat. I fancy a kit-kat right now.
Lol. I always fancy a kit kat.
