Progessions

I loathe progressions.  Probably because I’m indescribably rubbish at them.  They first appeared in my training plan in September last year and have been my downfall ever since.

Attempt 1: (solo)

The brief – five miles at 9:30, 9:00, 8:30, 8:00 and finally 7:30 min/mile pace.
The reality – five miles at 9:23, 8:56, 9:02, 10:02 and finally 8:57.

Attempt 2:

The brief – four miles at 10:00, 9:30, 9:00 and finally 8:30 min/mile pace.
The reality – nothing – I couldn’t face it and bailed out completely.

Attempt 3: (solo)

The brief – five miles at 10:00, 9:30, 9:00, 8:30 and finally 8:00 min/mile pace.
The reality – five miles at 9:26, 9:08, 9:11, 9:17 and finally 10:07.

Attempt 4: (with the frankly wonderful pacer extraordinaire Fairweather Runner)

The brief – 10 mins at 10:00, 9:30, 9:00, 8:30, 8:00 and finally 7:30 min/mile pace.
The reality – five miles at 9:40, 9:24, 8:40, 8:14 and finally 7:52

Okay.  I grant you.  It’s five speeds for a mile each, not six speeds for 10 mins each, but it’s progressions!  Genuine getting-faster-each-mile progressions!  I didn’t think the day could get any better…and then Fairweather whipped out the lemon drizzle cake.

Mmmmmm.

It may not have been quite as dictated by your plan but who cares, you definitely got steadily speedier – impressive work! Sounds like the cake was a very well earned reward! 🙂
