Snow getting out of it

When I woke up this morning and looked out the window, I was tempted to ditch my long run.  17 miles is hard enough, but 17 miles in the snow?  It appealed not one jot.

But my ultra is rapidly approaching, and on the day I will have to deal with whatever conditions happen to be around, so I girded my loins, threw on my running gear, whipped up some date and banana smoothie and set off.

I did make one concession to the snow, ditching my original “train out, run back” plan in favour of a large loop straight from my door.

On balance, I’m glad I went out.  It was slow and plodding, but had moments of loveliness.  I finally checked out Morden Hall Park, which has been on my list of parks-within-running-distance for ages, saw a series of miniature snowmen on park benches who were sat watching the world go by, and ran past a couple of frozen lakes with rather disgruntled looking ducks standing on them.

But best of all it brings my weekly mileage to over 50 miles for the third consecutive week, making 200 janathon miles a possibility.
