Inspirational women

For all my tourism, when I’m feeling a little bit blah about running and in need of a little pick-me-up, it’s hard to beat my home run at Wimbledon.  Especially when it comes complete with four truly inspirational women.

First off, not there but mentioned in dispatches, was Sophie McKay, who pootled around in 23:44 last week before giving birth to a healthy baby boy on Monday.

Then there was Sophie Hosking, the Olympic gold medallist, who has recently retired from competitive rowing to train as a lawyer*.

And Jean Beaumont, who finished third at last weekend’s South Downs Way 100, in a time of just under 17 hours.

All of whom are inspiring in an ‘out of my league’ kind of way.  But the woman who inspires me the most, who encourages, pushes and reassures me in equal measure, is Run or Go Crazy, who looked impressively comfortable as she pulled away into the distance to record a new parkrun PB.  Yay!

*Though I can’t see her in the results, so may have imagined this bit.  She has been there before though, and was definitely inspirational.

  1. Yay. A huge big up to running to running buddies…. Or buddies generally. 🙂

What about the inspirational author? Who is inspires me in an ‘out of my league’ kind of way. She too deserves a big thumbs up in my book.

Totally agree! Run or go Crazy is the lady who first got me to start running in 2008, and is still a total inspiration.. and I would like to add a 5th lady to your list, and that is you!! From non runner to Ultra Runner in 2 short years – you are an absolutely amazing abradypus (how is that for alteration!)
