Sometimes, the most amazing thing that anyone can do is carry on. My mother has this ability in spades. Whenever life throws something at her, she takes stock, makes note of her new circumstances and then works out how to enjoy them. “That was then. This is now. Now what?”
Another person with that ability is Helen. After months on crutches, she is returning to running again, celebrating each incremental achievement. So far, she’s run her first new mile, her first new parkrun, her first new 10k and her first new half marathon, and I have no doubt that if she wants to add marathon or ultra-marathon to that tally then she will.
