“Rest.”
I didn’t, of course. It is Janathon after all. Instead, I did a little bit of strength work* and some foam rolling**.
* A very little bit. I’m trying to get into the habit of doing some strength work little and often. “Little” has proved easy. “Often” on the other hand…
** Please, I beg you, please will somebody point me in the direction of a well-designed scientific study which shows that foam rolling is an utterly pointless pastime, or failing that, point me in the direction of “the idiot’s guide to foam rolling painlessly”?
Sorry… http://breakingmuscle.com/mobility-recovery/science-says-foam-rolling-increases-rom-and-does-not-decrease-strength
(but do avoid mashing it on your IT band as that’s proving to be not the greatest thing – http://www.thebodymechanic.ca/2012/03/17/stop-foam-rolling-your-it-band-it-can-not-lengthen-and-it-is-not-tight/)
I have never foam rolled, but I guess sitting on my backside eating biscuits doesn’t call for much in the way of post exercise management!!
A foamidable achievement!
*groans*
foam rolling – not for wimps
I had advice from a physiotherpaist who is also a World Championship level marathon runner, and she said that when it comes to foam rolling, you’ve probably done yourself the most good in the first 2 minutes.
She also suggested getting some moisturising lotion and massaging your calves for an age – i.e., sit down in front of entertaining film for 90 minutes (or however long film is) and doing some massage of your calves the whole way through the movie.
I have decided that my Janathon activity (I have exempted myself on the grounds of serial crapness) might be commenting. So well done, and ouch
What a fabulous idea! Though reading blogs takes far, far longer than either the exercise or the blogging, so you may live to regret it 🙂
