“Easy hour incorporating Park Run”
This morning Dave Thomas and Tony Streams joined the Cowell Club, and what a gorgeous venue they chose.
Daventry parkrun is a single lap course run around Daventry reservoir.
It starts off with about a third of a mile of tarmac, before cutting under the road, crossing some fields and entering the woods. You run up the right hand side of the reservoir under the cover of the trees and then take your life in your hands as you traverse the treacherous ridge along the top*. If you survive that, it’s back into the woods, down to the bottom of the park, under a second underpass, along a short section of pavement and down a grassy slope to the end.
It’s essentially flat, has wooden bridges, gates and wiggles galore to keep it interesting, and comes complete with gate-opening marshals.
After all of which, you can retire to the Leisure Centre café for coffee, cake, champagne^ and a chat.
* Lose your footing and fall to your left and it’s rocks and death by drowning. Lose your footing and fall to your right and it’s a long roll down a steep grassy bank into the icy stream. Where you’ll probably drown.**
** Fortunately, the path is very wide, the footing is steady and pretty much the only way you’d fall is if your arch-nemesis gave you a well-timed shove.***
*** Which they wouldn’t do because it’s a run not a race.
^ On special occasions only. BYOB.
Might have to give that one a try, shouldn’t be too far from my parents 🙂
