“50 mins easy pace on flat road or trail”

It’s been an odd sort of day.  My phone has resolutely refused to resurrect itself, and I need a mobile for SDW100 next weekend (it’s part of the mandatory kit), so I thought I’d run into Kingston, visit the Apple store, pick up a new iPhone and the ingredients for chocolate sugar crack and then come home to whip up two batches of said crack.

The run into Kingston was about the only part of that which went to plan.  At the Apple store, I brandished my poor drowned iPhone and asked if there was any chance of breathing any life into it.  “Probably not, but you can make an appointment if you want to make sure.  We have slots on Friday or Saturday”.  “They’re no use, I’m afraid.  Do you have anything for the following Wednesday?”.  “We can’t book more than six days in advance… but you could try popping in first thing tomorrow.”  “That’s not possible either – I don’t work in Kingston”.  By the time that I’d established that if I wanted to come in a week on Wednesday, I would have to go onto the website this Thursday and use the online booking facility, I was in no mood to splash out on a new phone, so instead I popped into a Vodaphone store and picked up a pay as you go sim for my old handset.

As for the ingredients for the sugar crack, they proved equally frustrating.  The Thorntons in Kingston has closed (or moved, but without my phone, I couldn’t check), so I caught the bus to Wimbledon… only to find that the Thorntons there were out of stock of their Espresso chocolate bars.

At which point I gave up and headed home.  The sugar crack will just have to wait for another day.
