There follows an update on the current state of the Thames Path between Datchet and Temple Lock.
Three steps onto the path, and there’s unavoidable puddle number 1. Ankle deep, but only little.
Unlike this one. Ankle deep and substantially longer.
After which it was mostly okay until just before Maidenhead… though had I known the path better, I could have avoided this one by sticking on the road until I reached the bridge.
Next hazard was just after Bourne End…
… though it was essentially heavy weather all the way from there to Marlow.
But the worst section was just leaving Marlow, when the path disappeared completely for about 100 yards…
…before returning in the form of puddly goo.
Fortunately, at Temple Lock, I crossed paths with a local runner who pointed me in the direction of a parallel path back to Marlow.
Verdict: navigable, unpleasant in places, muddy as hell but with a handy shoe-wash at the end.
You need wellies or a canoe
Mmmmm……. Even gaitors (sp.) can’t save you from that! Lovely!
I can vouch for the effectiveness of the shoe-wash at the end as this is the first time in weeks we haven’t had mud throughout the house (other than from the cat who remains consistent).
those are some serious puddles 🙂 should have sticked with Plan A and joined you!
If you’d peeled off at 18 miles (Bourne End) you would have missed the worst sections :-). Hope your knee is recovering.
Hope feet, shoes and socks all dried out
Lots of sympathy ….!! 🙂 Hope it dries up properly for your race!!
I love how you have put this together – a run by puddles! I hope your feet have dried out!
That looks pretty grim, but as a hard nut ultra runner I know you’ll manage! Great posting too, if only all routes came with such a great system of showing bits of the route that look nasty 🙂
